The Painted Word by Tom Wolfe
I have never read anything by Wolfe before, this was my first go. For someone like me, with no concrete knowledge of art outside of what I find primaly appealing, it was nice to read this little bite-size review of Modern Art. Wolfe isn’t much of a fan it seems, he discusses the dissolution of dimension and form to the point where the art has literally vanished. He is highly critical of the opinion makers - critics who had the power to elevate certain artists and guide the course Modern Art would take. Regardless of where you sit on the issue, it is worth the hour or so it takes to read this little ditty.
